Because of my orthopaedic care, I can stand straight and tall!
Before I had my surgery, I was not standing straight because my spine was bending. It’s something I was born with and my spine was bending more and more so Dr. Newton said we needed to fix it. He took out a piece in my back and put some rods in. It was not very fun right after I had the surgery because it hurt to walk. For about a year after my surgery I couldn’t do a lot because I had to wear a back brace and not run or jump or ride my bike. But after that I wrote a list for Dr. Newton of things I wanted to do and asked him if I could and he said yes, you can do it all. He was right. I do the monkey bars at school, I do mileage club (that’s where you run races with other kids), I’m on the swim team, I play basketball and soccer, I go rock climbing — if I want to do it, I do! And I feel great. Dr. Newton is a very nice doctor. He took very good care of me and I’m a happy girl.
