My treatment and recovery

In January 2009, I was crushed between 2 buses as a pedestrian. I suffered fractures to my right femur, hip, pelvis and cauda equina with urethral and rectal injuries with a colostomy. I underwent 3 orthopedic surgeries in the first 10 days after the accident. Then almost a month of rehab, 3 months in a wc, then using a walker and home physical therapy and by the end of a year, I was ambulating independently. Inbetween this, there was another surgery or two. During this time, it never occurred to me that I wouldn’t walk or get back to as normal a life as possible. I took it one day at a time, always with the goal of making a little bit of progress every day, literally one step a day. The surgeons who saved my life, continued to cheer me on during my follow up visits. I feel like they are family. I really believe the positive attitude I was able to maintain (along with the skill of my surgeons) is the reason I am back on the tennis court today!

My Second First

Because of my orthopaedic care, I am able to walk and play tennis. It kept me from being bound after a traumatic accident.
