By 17, I had dislocated my knee cap twice. This was a painful experience and something my father and grandmother had suffered themselves.

My treatment and recovery

Fortunately, I found a surgeon who was able to repair any damage and perform preventative surgery so I could avoid any problems in the future. This required me to keep my leg straight in a brace for six weeks. I had to learn how to get around and maneuver narrow spaces! Learning to bend it again was also a learning experience! However, I am 41 now and happy to say I haven’t had to worry about it anymore. My father was happy that I was able to correct the problem when I was young and not have to suffer like he did as an adult.

Tip

Explore your options! Remember that pain and inconveniences may be worth a happier life in the long run.

My Second First

Just being able to enjoy life without worrying about my knee "going out" again.
