I was very active realtor, wife, biker, hiker, Disney fan, and grandmother. A bad fall shattered my tibia, crushing the tibial plateau, vertical fracture down to about the ankle, and over 20 fractures horizontally.

My treatment and recovery

Due to a terrible fall, I had a bicondylar fracture of my left tibia. Basically, the tibial plateau was smashed down, vertical fracture all the way down the tibia to above the ankle and over 20 horizontal fractures. My surgeon rebuilt the plateau with Norian bone graft, I have a plate across and one all the way down the tibia.
I had 3 months complete non weight bearing, then walking with a walker, then a cane. About 10 1/2 months after the accident, I was able to walk without a cane. I am almost 12 months post surgery and starting to work on stairs. I started on therapy while still non weight bearing and I’m still working on it. I’m hoping to go to Disneyland next month with the grandkids so I’m working hard at getting better!

Be patient. It WILL get better. Listen to your doctors and physical therapists.

My Second First

Since my accident, I am so happy to be able to walk again. It was very difficult to be non-ambulatory and dependent on other people for cooking, cleaning and even bathing.
