It is fairly normal to still have discomfort three months after tennis elbow surgery. Different surgeons have different surgical techniques for treating tennis elbow and so your surgeon is best able to answer that question more precisely. However, after tennis elbow surgery, typically there is a repair of the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon. If the repair is performed tightly it can cause pulling discomfort up to 3 months postoperatively. Furthermore, sometimes patient’s heal with scar tissue, which can cause discomfort for quite some time after surgery. Finally, often there is concomitant pathology associated with tennis elbow, which may also cause more long-term discomfort. For example, sometimes there is an injury to the capsule of the elbow joint, which can lengthen the duration of recovery as well.
