The vast majority of swimmers who undergo shoulder surgery for rotator cuff repairs, shoulder impingement, or recurrent shoulder instability were able to successfully return to competitive swimming with a high degree of success after a 4-6 months post-operative therapy program.

The results of swimmers and overhead athletes getting back to competitive overhead sports and swimming in Superior Labrum Anterior Posterior lesion (SLAP) repairs is variable. Some orthopaedic studies have demonstrated a high level of success while others have not.
